How it all began…

I fell in love with horse hair raku after taking a workshop and my husband built me a kiln as a gift. I never imagined I'd be starting this business, but it found me.

I had been making pieces for horse owners using their horse’s hair. When my sweet Jedi passed away I thought to make pieces with his fur, my hair, my son's hair, and my husband’s hair. I wasn't sure it would work, but it did. My piece is on the nightstand next to my bed and I love it SO much, every time I look at it, I feel his love and sweetness and I talk to it often.

Then my friend's mother passed away and she asked me to make her urn. I used all of her children's and grandchildren's hair to decorate it and it worked beautifully. It was such a sweet, touching, and moving experience, it really felt like she was being buried in the embrace of all of her loved ones.

I realized there is a need for a more loving and personal final resting place for cremation ashes that embodies the transcendental nature of the love and connection we shared in our lives. It’s difficult to lose a loved one and it’s comforting and sweet to be able to create something that speaks to the heart.

It’s also meaningful to have beautiful ceramic art with sentimental value that celebrates and reminds us of special moments and the love and connection in our lives, like a special wedding gift decorated with the couples hair entwined, a child’s first haircut, a mother’s day gift decorated with all the children’s hair, or a beautiful gift that celebrates the bond between pet and pet lover.

So I started Sentimental Ceramics.
